Over the past 20 years NemaslugĀ® has grown to become the most recognised biological control product in the Home & Garden market. Until now however, Nemaslug 2.0 has only been available to buy online. As with all beneficial nematodes and predatory insects, challenges around handling living organisms with short shelf lives and specific storage conditions have been too challenging for in-store retail.

Ā

BASF and Andermatt are partnering to integrate BASFā€™s Nemaslug 2.0 into Andermattā€™s Offline to Online (O2O) selling system allows garden centres to stock and sell Nemaslug 2.0 without the stock risk of handling the short shelf-life perishable product.

This new system offers the opportunity for an already well-known brand to become available to a new customer base in-store

Developed and manufactured in the UK, Nemaslug 2.0 is a naturally-occurring beneficial nematode. A natural parasite of slugs, once applied to a garden it's able to move through the soil to locate, infect and kill slugs. Nemaslug 2.0 is well-established online as a product returned to year after year. Its specificity of only killing slugs and its level of performance, under wet conditions when slugs thrive, are why Nemaslug 2.0 is a favourite amongst those who shop online.

Since itā€™s a living organism, Nemaslug 2.0 has a limited shelf life. Unable to feed until they find a host slug, the nematodes need to be kept dormant under refrigeration to prevent them consuming their energy before they have made it to the garden. Managing these logistical challenges, along with the increasingly unpredictability of the British weather, is why the new Nemaslug 2.0 O2O selling system has been developed. It allows garden centres to stock a new product line recognised within the market, with potential to grow with a new in-store customer group.Ā

How does the system work? The retailer sells a voucher in-store, which the customer redeems online when needed. The NemaslugĀ® 2.0 is then despatched on the same day, directly to the consumer ready to use.

ā€œWe are delighted to be working with BASF, and that they have entrusted their Nemaslug 2.0 brand with usā€ says Dr Andrew Brown, Managing Director of Andermatt UK. ā€œThe Andermatt O2O system provides a solution for physical retailers to now sell biocontrols, a growing trend in sustainable gardening, which until now had been limited to online retail.ā€

ā€œUntil now Nemaslug 2.0 has been limited to online retail,ā€ says Matthew Martin. ā€œWith gardeners increasingly looking for more options for to naturally control pests in their garden, the Andermatt in-store selling system allows garden centre visitors to experience Nemaslug 2.0 in the same way online shoppers have been for decades.ā€
